Hi, I’m Mel.
I’m an accredited sober coach, and I love helping people get inspired, quit drinking, and live their best life. I ditched the booze for good in 2021, after many years of unsuccessful attempts at moderation and “mindful” drinking. I would drink to take the edge off after a long day or to deal with stress, because I didn’t know any other way. Alcohol was the only coping mechanism I’d been taught. But it’s also an insidious, addictive drug, and over the years it started taking its toll.
At some point I realized that I was spending way too much time thinking about my next drink. What would it be? (If I have beer I won’t drink as much.) When? (Only on the weekends. Wait, does Friday count? What about Thursday?) How much? (2 glasses, tops. Maybe 3. But that’s it.) I set countless rules to try to get a handle on it, only to promptly break them again come 5 p.m.
Sound familiar? It’s exhausting, I know.
Enter the pandemic in March 2020. Shell-shocked, I realized that my drinking was becoming uncomfortably problematic, and was adding fuel to my anxiety and jangled nerves. I’d done a Dry January before and remembered feeling pretty good, so this time I decided the occasion merited the big guns: a 90-day sober challenge. To my surprise I felt simply amazing, despite all the COVID craziness. I was sleeping like a baby, and suddenly life seemed brighter than it had in a long time.
That was three years ago, and I haven’t looked back. Sobriety has given me clarity, freedom, hope – and most surprisingly of all, joy.
That’s why I became a sober coach. I want to set the record straight about alcohol AND sobriety, and I want to help people – people like you – start living life on THEIR terms again.
Sobriety has also sparked a passion for personal growth and a deep dive into healing, self-care and self-compassion. I have learned so much along the way, and now I want to share those lessons and insights with others, and help them transform their lives too, one step at a time.
If you’re ready to take the leap and discover for yourself just how powerful a sober life can be, it would be my honour to guide you on your journey.
