Reiki is an energy healing technique that originated in Japan. The word Reiki loosely translates to “universal life force energy,” which is also known as “Chi” in China, “Prana” in India – anyone who does yoga will be familiar with the term! – and the biofield in the Western scientific tradition. It’s based on the idea that, as Albert Einstein famously said, “everything is energy and that’s all there is to it”.
Essentially, a Reiki practitioner uses their hands to guide this energy that surrounds us and flows through us to promote relaxation, healing and balance. It can be performed in person, where the practitioner hovers their hands over or lightly touches different areas of the recipient’s body, or remotely, using powerful visualization techniques. Energy has no physical limitations and can thus be sent to and from anywhere.
Reiki is a perfect addition to your sober toolkit. I discovered this gentle, nourishing practice a few years ago, as I was undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer. My first session was a revelation: it left me in a state of peace and well-being that lasted hours, like I had spent a day at the spa – only a spa for the soul. It was such a balm on my battered body and spirit that I decided to study the practice. Today I’m an accredited Reiki Master, and I love helping others on their healing journeys.

Following my session with Mel, I felt a sense of peace and relaxation in my whole body. She was also able to relax muscles that had been tight for weeks. I highly recommend her services to anyone needing some help to relax or release tension in the body!

I had my first experience with Reiki, and it won’t be the last one. What a discovery, I did not know what to expect. I felt so relaxed that I even fell asleep. I strongly recommend it if you have any kind of stress. Thank you, Mel!
